A Brand New Wave

Hello to all my fashionistas/fashionistos (men, I promise not to forget about you)

1520 is starting a brand new wave, especially when it comes to fashion.

New writer- Deja Vaughn will be taking over and writing articles on the latest trends, fashion faux pas, and how music influences fashion.

YES, I’m talking the best of the best and even the worst of the worst.

Who wore it best?

Who has started the latest trend?

What’s on the run way?

How to rock the color of the year?

Black fashion looks of the day

Fashion Polls

I’ll even give you the scope on locals who’s influencing fashion around your area and local brands that are handling their own clothing lines because one things for sure: buying local and buying black helps our people.

Let’s build a community that really helps people out there by focusing on equality, ethical clothing labels, and helping young people form healthier opinions about their body and sources of self-esteem.

Let’s create the wave and enjoy the ride.

Stay Postive,

The Kickstarter: NOLA Hiphop Archive by Holly Hobbs

New Orleans –– The NOLA Hiphop Archive was founded in 2012 as an effort to collect, document, and make accessible to the public the oral histories of New Orleans’ influential rappers, producers and DJs who helped to create and popularize hiphop and bounce music traditions in the city and beyond. Founded in 2012 by Tulane graduate student, Holly Hobbs, the Archive currently holds more than 30 videotaped interviews with the city’s hiphop and bounce artists and pioneers, including Mannie Fresh, Mystikal, Partners N Crime, Dee-1, Ricky B, DJ Raj Smoove, Nesby Phips, Nicky da B & Rusty Lazer, and Queen Blackkold Madina, star of the Academy Award-winning Katrina documentary, Trouble the Water.

In conjunction with materials from the Smithsonian-affiliated Where They At bounce exhibit, the community-accessible NOLA Hiphop and Bounce Archive will launch with the support of the Amistad Research Center at Tulane University in Spring 2014. That means that beginning in the spring of next year, the previous collected interviews––along with Where They At interviews and materials––will be accessible to the public both online and in person at the Amistad Research Center free of charge.

This is truly a phenomenal project, I believe not only should everyone support it, but also be inspired. Wherever you’re from be proud of that, represent it, and preserve all the things that are unique and beautiful about it. Without question Louisiana, particularly New Orleans, has given us such great talent and we should all be honored to join in and help this project come to pass. Here’s the link where you can be apart of something great http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1536605494/nola-hiphop-archive you can back this project with just $1 but I encourage you to give as much as you can!!

The News: Future & Ciara Are Engaged

Future and Ciara have been dating for some time now and I guess he couldn’t wait for her to be his forever. This past weekend asked Ciara to marry him and of course she said yes. They seem to be the next power couple. Just like the song says…”We don’t want this to neva end.” I guess Future really does have all the answers for Ciara’s heart.

A3C Fashion featuring: Kia Shine, Pill, DeLorean and More

Hey, hey, HEY THERE 1520 readers! It’s been a minute but I’m back like I never left. Not sure if you guys are hip but some of the 1520 crew was down in The A, that’s right A T L A N T A for A3C! The biggest Hip Hop festival known to our generation. The festival took place in some of the most popular areas in Atlanta. From Old 4th Ward to Little 5 Points. Downtown Atlanta to East Atlanta Village. There was love spread throughout the A for a whole five days. That’s right, FIVE DAYS! From October 2nd to the very last day October 6th. It was five days full of fun, laughter, hip hop, eats and love. It was amazing to see. As you all know I’m part of the Fashion Team with 1520, so you already know I was in heaven. All the clothing options that I seen on some of our brothers and sisters had me in complete awe. Here are some of my top picks from some people I ran into!

Pusha T Hints That Kanye & Pharrell Want To Produce Full Clipse Album

The 36-year-old rapper is currently signed to Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music label and several tracks from MNIMN were produced by West. Pharrell also contributed production to the album.

Pharrell played a significant role in the introduction of Clipse to a nationwide audience. He and fellow Neptune beatmaker Chad Hugo produced the Pusha T and No Malice’s albums Lord Willin’ and Hell Hath No Fury.

While Ye and P seem to be interested in contributing to the first Clipse album since 2009′s Til The Casket Drops, the only question remains is if No Malice is willingly to go another round. Back in June, the older sibling told Vibe, “We’ve always supported each other in everything that we’ve done. Right now, we’re doing two different things.”
